EUID – European Unique Identifier

The EUID (European Unique Identifier) is a unique identifier for companies across Europe. It facilitates the unambiguous identification of companies within the European Union and supports the cross-border exchange of company information.

In detail, the European Unique Identifier (EUID) is a standardised identifier that uniquely identifies companies within the European Union. It was introduced as part of the interconnection of European business registers and enables companies to be identified unambiguously across national borders.

Unlike the Austrian commercial register number, which is unique only within Austria, the EUID ensures that a company can be referenced unambiguously throughout Europe. The EUID consists, among other elements, of the country code, the relevant business register and the national registration number.

Practical relevance: Companies frequently operate across borders. At the same time, authorities, financial institutions and business partners increasingly access company information from different European registers.

The EUID provides a common reference and facilitates, among other things:

  • the cross-border exchange of company data,
  • the unambiguous identification of companies within the EU,
  • regulatory and legal reviews,
  • international due diligence processes, and
  • the linking of different business registers.

For companies themselves, this changes little. For users who regularly research or assess company information, however, the EUID increases clarity and traceability.

The FinAPU Firmenbuch displays the EUID in a structured format together with other company information.

This includes, among other things:

  • commercial register number (Firmenbuchnummer)
  • LEI
  • company status

  • proceedings status
  • available annual financial statements

Combining this information facilitates the unambiguous identification of companies and supports well-founded analyses and regulatory reviews.
